Early Learning Center Instructional Assistant

Position Summary:

Instructional Assistants at the Early Learning Center supports the Preschool Coordinator and lead teachers in creating a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for young children. This part-time position (28 hours/week) involves assisting with classroom activities, supervising students, preparing materials, and supporting the social, emotional, and academic growth of preschool-aged children. The ideal candidate is patient, nurturing, and passionate about early childhood education.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provides overall assistance to teacher
• Assists with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions, ensure a safe and orderly classroom, and ensure students are on task
• Takes over classes when the teacher has meetings, parent conferences, emergencies, etc.
• Prepares and distributes classroom materials; assists in the clean up of materials
• Monitors students at various times including recess, cafeteria, seat work, etc.
• Assists individual students and small groups with learning tasks as assigned by the teacher
• Administers first aid to sick or injured students until nurse can take over
• Assist with children's hygiene needs, which may include toileting
• Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with young children
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, parents/guardians, and others contacted in the course of work
• Perform any other related duties as assigned

Physical Activities May Include:

• Frequent bending, kneeling, reaching, and squatting
• Must be able to carry, lift, push or pull routinely
• Work involves walking or standing most of the time, but may involve sitting for brief periods of time

Educational Qualifications:

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Preferred: one to two years prior related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.
