Kingdom One is partnered with First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood located in Hollywood, CA that is looking to grow their team by adding a full time Preschool Teacher.
Vision for the role:
HPCC (Hollywood Presbyterian Childrens Center ) is a ministry of First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood (FPCH). HPCC is open to children of all spiritual backgrounds and provides an appropriate Christian faith-based learning experience for children between two years, six months and five years of age. HPCCs goal is to provide experiences that stimulate the childs interest in Gods world to provide an environment where each child can develop his or her physical, emotional, mental and social capabilities to his or her full potential, with an emphasis on cognitive development and communication skills. To serve the church by teaching the children at the Hollywood Presbyterian Childrens Center (HPCC), a weekday preschool of the church, on the basis of a Christ-centered environment and developmentally appropriate curriculum that nurtures children and builds relationships with families as part of the family of God.
We are looking for someone who:
- Personal faith in Jesus Christ experienced in a church community, love for God and love for children and families.
- Honesty and high moral character in all personal and professional relationships.
- Professional conduct with staff and families
- Self motivated and takes initiative
- Sensitivity to the cultural/ethnic diversity of our school, church and neighborhood.
- A teacher will have completed a MINIMUM of 12 units of Early Childhood Education and show experience in the field.
Some of what you'll do:
Curriculum:
- Curriculum- Plan, supervise and implement the class program in accordance with the mission and philosophy and policies of HPCC
- Post weekly lesson plans in accordance with curriculum guidelines
- Gear the program to the needs of individual children with concerns for their interests, handicaps, special talents, and individual style and pace of learning.
- Consider individual children in relationship to their cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Be responsible for the orderly arrangement, appearance, decor and learning environment of the classroom- washing the dress up clothes, toys and etc when needed
- Implement methods for effectively utilizing the services of the assistant teacher
- Clean and organize the classroom at the end of the day
Children:
- Ensure the safety and security of all children while in the care of HPCC.
- Provide an orientation of your class for new children.
- Help children become aware of their roles as integral members of a group.
- Provide assistance to children in dressing, grooming and other personal hygiene activities as needed.
- Be aware of the spiritual, social, emotional, physical and mental needs of the children.
- Maintain visual supervision at all times.
- Understand and implement the discipline policy of HPCC.
- Observe and document significant individual and/or group behavior.
- Use appropriate positive examples for children (please and thank you, praying for the children, etc.).
- Document any suspected incident of child abuse or neglect and report it to the Director.
- Fill out an accident report as soon as possible and place a copy in the childs folder and in the office.
- Be consistent with actions, discipline, and communication when dealing with the children.
Parents:
- Be available to communicate with parents on a daily basis if needed.
- Display a friendly and professional attitude towards parents
- Conduct Parent Conferences and Open House as stated in the yearly calendar.
- Facilitate parental understanding of developmental appropriate practices in early childhood education.
- Prepare a written evaluation of each childs progress as required by the director.
Administrative:
- Maintain professional qualifications/certifications (First Aid, CPR, professional organizations)
- Maintain accurate attendance records for children
- Fill out an accident report ASAP and put a copy in the childs folder in the office
- Be knowledgeable of staff and parent handbooks, school policies, school calendar and current events.
- Submit lesson plans in a timely manner.
- Fill out daily time cards accurately.
- Notify the Director regarding any specific needs for supplies and other provisions.
- Attend and actively participate in staff meetings and staff in services when required.
- Assist in training and orientation of new staff members.
- Develop an information sharing relationship with the Director and Assistant Teacher by communicating professional observations, both negative and positive, about individual children.
- Be prepared to participate in HPCC and church fundraisers and special events.
Classroom and play yard environments:
- Create and maintain environments that provide a variety of choices that are developmentally appropriate for children.
- Conduct an orientation for all children in classroom and play yard rules.
- Orient and supervise aides, assistants and volunteers regarding classroom and play yard materials, equipment and rules.
- Display the childrens work creatively. Never leave a bulletin board empty.
- Report and remove (if possible) potential hazards.
- Put all materials away before leaving for the day, especially on Fridays so the rooms are ready for Sunday school.
- Create and maintain a nurturing and positive environment to promote childrens self-esteem and independence.
- All equipment on the play yard MUST be moved inside the gates and the sandboxes MUST be covered on a daily basis.
- All materials borrowed from the storage rooms, libraries, or Directors office will be returned in an orderly, timely manner and returned to the proper place.
Pay Information: Hourly, $28-$30
Status: Full Time
