Primary Purpose:

Collaborate with educators in the development and implementation of programs to remediate behavioral and social problems and assist with development and implementation behavior intervention plans. Provide individualized behavioral and academic support to students who require assistance with social, emotional, and behavioral development.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Bachelor's degree

Special Education Certification

Special Knowledge/Skills:

General knowledge of curriculum and instruction

Display professionalism in dealing with students, campus staff, and parents

Understanding of behavior disorders

Has provided instruction to students diagnosed with behavior disorders.

Has developed and implemented data collection systems.

Familiarity with Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and other behavior management frameworks.

Experience in conflict resolution and restorative practices.

Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.

Experience:

Three years of teaching or related experience working with students diagnosed with behavior disorders

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Model core organization beliefs and values; communicate openly and effectively within and across teams to maximize success.

Consult with teachers and administrators to design and implement instructional and behavioral supports for students including observations, data collection, recommendations, teacher training and follow up services to support the fidelity of implementation of interventions.

Model research proven techniques to staff in order to facilitate positive behavior change in general education and special education settings.

Create written reports documenting student's behavior and review results with student support committees.

Collaborate and facilitate the development and implementation of behavior intervention.

Analyze data and recommend changes to behavior intervention plans as needed.

Design data sheets and use data collection methods that are minimally intrusive on teacher's time and effort as much as practicable.

Participate in and provide district and campus wide in-service training for all stakeholders regarding the implementation of evidence - based practices.

Serve and/or attend committees, job-related meetings and activities as specified.

Other duties as assigned.

Policy, Reports, and Law

Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required, including mandatory reports to TEA.

Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and the local board policy.

Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Ability to work with students with challenging behaviors in a calm, patient manner.

Skill in managing stressful situations, including potential physical or verbal aggression.

Effective problem-solving skills to support individualized behavior plans.

Physical stamina to support, restrain, or de-escalate students when necessary (may include bending, lifting, or restraining).

Ability to remain on feet for long periods and actively move around the classroom or campus as needed.

Work environment can include exposure to challenging student behaviors, which may include physical aggression.

May require travel between school campuses or off-campus sites for meetings or student support.
