Princeton Day School is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Upper School Latin & History Teacher beginning in the 2025-26 school year. Successful candidates will possess a passion for teaching Latin and classical studies, along with the versatility to engage students on broad historical topics. This teacher will be dedicated to supporting student learning and committed to innovative and inclusive teaching practices that inspire and challenge students.
In addition to teaching two (2) sections of Latin and two (2) sections of History, a full-time teacher contributes to the community life of PDS as an advisor of 6-8 students, has various duties, and is expected to contribute to school life outside the classroom in an extracurricular activity, such as coaching or clubs. One to four times a semester, a weekend or evening activity or campus event may be required.
The ideal candidate is expected to:
- Teach Latin at varying levels (ability to teach advanced levels of Latin preferred but not necessary) and additional sections of History, based on the candidates expertise.
- Collaborate with faculty to create interdisciplinary opportunities that connect classical studies with modern historical or literary contexts.
- Support students' academic growth through differentiated instruction and individualized learning support.
- Foster a classroom environment that encourages active participation, critical thinking, and inclusion.
- Build trusting relationships with students, acting as an advisor and mentor.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to bring innovative, research-based strategies into the classroom.
