University Preparatory Charter School for Young Men is currently seeking candidates for a Middle School Teacher Position (Full-Time) for the 2024-2025 school year. TEACHER SUPPORT : University Preparatory Charter School for Young has a strong operational team with student managers at each grade level who support student achievement through a disciplinary model that includes students' families. Administration provides all necessary instructional materials and support in a coaching model designed to build teacher confidence and competence. In-house professional development fosters teacher professional growth and is focused on increasing student achievement. Our graduating classes have exceeded a rate of 94% with our seniors being accepted at 2 or 4 year colleges or training programs. FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION OF UNIT : To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development in becoming a better version of themselves academically and holistically. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : Develops and administers school curriculum consistent with NYS curriculum and school district goals and objectives for equity. Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group and whole group instruction, and student learning. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials. Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students receiving special education services. Conducts individual and small group instruction as needed. Instructs students in the principles of responsible citizenship and other subject matters specified in applicable laws. Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field. Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping as required by district procedures and applicable laws. Encourages parental/guardian involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and families. Ensures that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and district policies. Collaborates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, to evaluate and assess curriculum, and participates in faculty meetings and committees. Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records. Supervises students in activities that take place out of the classroom during the school day, including activities involving school transportation. Administers standardized tests in accordance with District testing programs. RESPONSIBILITIES : Intentionally establish strong, positive relationships with students or a family member to learn with you and from you through daily authentic and culturally relevant/responsive mindsets and actions in the classroom and outside of the classroom Effectively collaborate with colleagues to improve the instructional practices and outcomes as a department, grade-level, and school. Be a cultural leader: Strategically create and contribute to positive norms and expectations within the classroom and school in accordance with the PBIS model. Accountability: holding oneself accountable as a professional, demonstrating excellence in accordance to the Danielson Teacher Framework. You prioritize school safety first. Supervise and maintain the physical safety of self, students, colleagues, and families at all times. Seek support and assistance as needed for the physical and mental health of self and others. Be a caring individual who places the students well-being first at all times and devote time and energy in guiding each and every student to become a better version of themselves. QUALIFICATIONS : Certification/License : NYS Teacher Certification or Out-of-State Teaching Certification equivalent preferred. Education : Bachelors from an accredited college or university in related discipline applicable to teaching assignment or Masters Degree in related area preferred. Experience : Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade levels a plus. Experience working within a diverse urban educational population strongly desired. Demands, Hazards : Works in standard office and school building environments. Equipment : Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, telephone, and other assigned technology Travel : Travels to school buildings and professional development as required.
